About Us

Mortimer Life was founded in 2016 and aims to promote and lay on diverse local events

Our events are non-profit with proceeds to charity.

Our inaugural event was “Mortimer presents Kingsclere Guitar Society” (KGS) in November 2016, featuring a mix of popular and classical guitar featuring acclaimed teenage soprano Juliette Ashman and highly talented guitarist Madeline Ashman. The event raised £158 for St Michael’s Hospice, in memory of Tim Gilson who ran KGS until his untimely death in 2015.

In April 2017 we indulged our passion of “watery wireless” by laying on the sell-out “A Pirate’s Tale – the real Boats that Rocked”.  This came about because two villagers, one of whom was a member of 1960s pirate Radio London (Big L), the other of who joined the legendary broadcaster Radio Caroline in the 1960s, both lived in the village. They were joined by Radio Caroline legend all all round witty guy  Roger “Twiggy” Day who came all the way from deepest Maidstone.  Thanks to assistants Lynn, Sue and Roy, the unflappable John and the irrepressible Richard Coles, the event raised £555 for Prostate Cancer UK.

If you want to know more about the pirate radio story, you can hear a special radio show here, that features a fascinating insight into life behind the scenes of Radio Caroline’s by its manager of 30 years Peter Moore.

Mortimer Life is an affiliate of Mortimer Village Partnership.
