About Us

Mortimer Life (formerly Music for Mortimer) was founded in 2016 by local classical guitarist/radio “anorak” and occasional stand-up comedian Nick Carter (ALCM).

Our aims are to blend performing, collaborating and event management.

Our events are invariably non-profit with proceeds to charity.

Our inaugural event was “Mortimer presents Kingsclere Guitar Society” (KGS) in November 2016.  It featured a mix of popular and classical with guests including teenage soprano vocalist Juliette Ashman and her sister the versatile and talented guitarist Madeline. The show raised £158 for St Michael’s Hospice, in memory of Tim Gilson who ran KGS until his untimely death in 2015.

In April 2017 we indulged our other passion of “watery wireless” and put on the sell-out “A Pirate’s Tale – the real Boats that Rocked”.  This came about partly through the aforementioned passion for “pirate” radio, partly through the chance discovery that a key member of 1960s pirate Radio London (Big L) – Richard Swainson – lived up the road (literally) and partly through a meeting with Roger “Twiggy” Day Radio Caroline legend all all round witty guy.  Thanks to assistants Lynn, Sue and Roy, the unflappable John and the irrepressible Richard Coles, the event raised £555 for Prostate Cancer UK. Which was nice.
